India has had some great comedy shows which do not make you go LMFAO or Lol or Lulzz, instead they make you go “Oh bhaisahaaabb!”. Beginning from the mid 80’s with the show ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, the Indian comedy scene has never looked back. No matter how many times you watch them there will never be a saturation point where you’ll be like “Yaar ye boring ho gaya hai ab!” These shows are the only source of solace in times of the crass saas-bahu sagas.
Here are some of the best Indian comedy shows of all time:
Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi
USP: Satish Shah playing different characters.
(Fun Fact: Apparently, due to the airing of this show, many silver screen openings were affected.)
Dekh Bhai Dekh
USP: Amazing star cast and Shekhar Suman’s fabulous comic timing. Its jingle still remains fresh in our memories.
USP: 5 troublesome daughters of Mr. Anand Mathur and Sweety’s song and dance sequence every time the doorbell rang, the feminist Meenakshi, Kajal bhai, deaf Radhika, chhoti and of course, Anita aunty’s “Aunty mat kaho naaa!”
Tu Tu Main Main
USP: Reema Lagoo and Supriya Pilgaonkar. Period.
USP: Distinct characters of the corrupt officials and ofcourse Mr. Pankaj Kapur as Mussadilal.
Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai
USP: EACH AND EVERYTHING! From Satish Shah and Sumeet Raghavan’s comic timing to Rosesh’s poetry to Maya Sarabhai’s high-class mannerisms to Monisha’s middle-class mannerisms to Madhu fufa’s “Hain?”! *Finally breathes*
Khichdi and Instant Khichdi
USP: Supriya Pathak as Hansa and Rajeev Mehta as Praful Parekh. And how can we forget Tulsidas Parekh’s “Praful tu toh gadha hai gadha!”
USP: Satirical punches by Jaspal Bhatti on the problems faced by the common man.
The Great Indian Laughter Challenge
USP: The show gave us comedians like Kapil Sharma, Raju Srivastava and Bharti Singh. Also, Navjot Singh Sidhu laughing as if multiple fractures are occurring simultaneously in every part of his body!
USP: Archana Puran Singh’s hysterical laughter, and also Kapil and Krishna-Sudesh’s acts.
Comedy Nights with Kapil
USP: Kapil Sharma as Bittoo Sharma and Sunil Grover as Gutthi. This show brought back families sitting together in front of the television (A tough job accomplished!). Even the celebs keep coming back to this show for it’s amazingness.
And the list is endless. I have just picked a few shows of Indian television. Can you think of more? Which one is your favourite? Do mention them in the comment box.
