The Objectification of Women

rolling-stone-cover1What is the easiest and the most effective way to impress a girl? Well don’t bother purchasing an expensive car and no need to suit up, just spray an AXE deodorant and voila! You’ll have the hottest girls swarming all over you in no time. Similar is the case in mattress ads or shampoo or tyres, or food. A hot lady is bathing and applying the shampoo, then she comes out and licks a strawberry seductively, and then tired of all this jumps on a mattress lying on the beach in her bikini and our next fantasy upgrades to recreating the scenario as accurately as possible. This forces us to buy the same shampoo, strawberries and whatever else she kissed and the very same mattress. This is the strategy the marketing guys (most probably IIPM graduates) suggest to the ad-makers and everyone starts salivating picturing their next model recruit. Such advertisements have infested the daily broadcast. These ads are created under the impression that female models in skimpy and exposing outfits compel the user to buy the product.

Most of the condom ads portray women as an ‘object of seduction’ but seriously, are they wrong? The deodorant ads show them as brainless maniacs, who run after whatever smells or look good. The movie and TV industry is obsessed with boobs but well so is the porn industry, and most of the nudity consists of naked women (outside of porn of course) as the other way around is termed ‘gross‘. When we see or hear the word ‘prostitute’, I am pretty sure the only image that comes to our mind is of a woman ready to sell off her body.

Women are constantly shown as being ‘banged’ by the Barneys, Charlies and they, ironically, are the most celebrated characters on television. Well, why sulk over this minor issue? Call men ‘bangers‘ in the most offensive way possible and we have a classic tit-for-tat scenario. That’s how we all came into this world, isn’t it ?? And guess what women do best? Oh yes, they are unparalleled in cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. Blame this mentality on extreme misogynists our society is blessed with. You are welcome.

Girls are referred as ‘item’, ‘maal’ etc. in a commonplace conversation. They are ogled at the same way the iPads and the iPhones are drooled over in a gadget store. The politicians refer to their female colleagues as ‘tanch maal‘. But come on, isn’t that a compliment ??. Hell no, this is objectification in the clearest sense and indicates the mentality of the society, from the uneducated right to the pseudo-educated babulog, and the level it has stooped to when it comes to respecting the better half.

objectaphiliaIn everyday conversations, our ideas and dialogues are dominated by male pronouns. Every dog, horse is a ‘he’. The supreme position in an organization is referred to as ‘chairman’. That seems to be the stereotyped convention. And until recently, the President was a ‘he’, blatantly dismissing the idea of a female supreme. Every change is seen from the point of view of a man. Women’s ideas, needs are overlooked. The corporate world is still getting used to following orders from women at a higher post.

Women are the most creative masterpiece of the almighty on this planet. They need to be respected, loved and cared for. If we get pissed off when our girl friends, girlfriends, sisters are stared at, then shouldn’t we refrain from doing the same to other’s girl friends, girlfriends and sisters ??. Break away from the stereotypes treating women just as objects meant to gratify the masculinity. The images of women the media serves on a daily basis are far from reality. The society is changing, finally embracing the idea of a woman in a commanding chair, though it’s still a long way to go.

P.S- What shows you objectification of women better than the fact that we had to show a busty chick on the cover page to attract you horny fucks into reading it.
