The seven deadly sins that condemn a man to hell indefinitely are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride.
The list is elaborate, whoever made the list seems to have done extensive research before publishing it.
These are believed to destroy the life of grace and charity within a person and thus create the threat of eternal damnation.
Most of us have a few of these if not all of them in us. Some dormant, others more active. So we are all going to hell for sure.
The only things left to be decided are which sections will we be booked under.
The Deadliest Sin
My pick for the deadliest sin is Greed. It’s connected to almost all its peers.
The greed of having more than you have, since someone else does, is envy. The greed of having someone who you don’t have is lust, the greed for more food and drinking is gluttony.
This five-letter word makes people do funny things.
It can make a celebrated cricketer with a promising international career hit all his chances at glory, out of the ballpark.
The man had everything someone needs to be happy. Fame, fan following, and money.
He also had something that a few of us so desperately want- a chance, to make our country proud.
But then greed struck.
The glory vanished, name tarnished, and all this for what he could have earned eventually.
He isn’t the only one who fell prey to this, there are many many more around him. Just that they won’t be joining him for his dahi chawal dinners at the jail anytime soon.
Could greed be one of the reasons for rape?
A man has other ways of obtaining sex, bartering emotions is one of them. If nothing works he can always pay for it.
There is no problem with accessibility, come night it’s available at every shady corner.
Greed for getting more, greed that transforms into lust. It might not be the main culprit but it’s definitely a co-conspirer there.
Most of our politicians are pallbearers of greed.
They carry it around in their pockets. Sprinkle it on every meal so they don’t run out of greed content in their system.
Their lust for greed isn’t limited to money, there are some who do it for power only. Nothing can stop them from what they are salivating upon.
Violence and trickery are used in liberal doses. Greed rules their lives and they rule our system. There is something immensely disturbing about this scenario.
Greed is the mutated form of desire.
Small dosages of this is still bearable but when your greed starts affecting people around you, you are going to the lowest level of hell.
Most of these sins are not even counted as vices anymore. They are mostly accepted in today’s times. Lust is a way of life.
Envy is just a nudge towards another sale. Our appetites are often satisfied at the expense of those around us.
There is no limit to greed, once it strikes it is taking you down.
Like Socrates said,
“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”
P.S: Now that the trip to hell is certain, I would like to make a reservation for a suite farthest from the Greed settlements.
